What is a predicted pick, and how is it different from a rank?
The pick number the model expects a player to go at — a projection of the NFL's behaviour, not a statement of how good he is.
Two different questions get confused constantly. "How good is this player?" and "where will he be drafted?" are not the same question, and a board that answers one while appearing to answer the other is misleading.
The predicted pick is the second question. It is where the model expects him to actually come off the board, given how NFL teams have behaved historically at his position and profile.
The rank is the first question — where he belongs by projected career value. When the two disagree, that gap is information: it usually means the model thinks the league systematically over- or under-values something about him.
Quote the rank when you mean quality. The underlying grade is a score the board sorts by, and it only means something next to the rest of this class — which is why the rank above it is the number worth citing.
