What is RAS in football?

Relative Athletic Score — a 0-to-10 summary of how a prospect's measurables compare to everyone else at his position, historically.

RAS compresses the combine into one number. Size, speed, explosion, agility — each scored against the historical distribution for that position, then combined into a 0-to-10 figure. A 9 is an outlier athlete for his job; a 4 is below average for it.

Position-relative is the essential part. A 4.6-second forty is unremarkable for a receiver and remarkable for a tackle, so a raw time tells you very little on its own.

Athleticism is an input, not a prediction. It correlates with NFL success unevenly across positions — quite strongly for some, weakly for others — and the model weights it accordingly rather than treating a high number as a verdict. Plenty of elite testers never played.

A missing RAS usually means a prospect did not test, which is itself mild information but not damning. We show what exists and leave the rest blank rather than imputing a number and presenting it like a measurement.
