Master scouting report
Bear Alexander combines interior size with movement that can make him more disruptive than a stationary block absorber. His Oregon season strengthened the case for a useful run defender, but it did not settle the entire evaluation. Pad level, hand placement and the way he holds his base still draw different assessments, while the pass-rush production trails the athletic appeal. His clearest NFL path begins in an interior rotation, with a broader role available if the technique becomes as dependable as the physical tools are enticing.
01A broader starting background
Alexander finished 2025 with 50 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack and two fumble recoveries. He started 12 of his 15 Oregon appearances and earned second-team All-Big Ten recognition. That was not his only substantial starting season: USC credited him with 12 starts in 13 games in 2023, when he recorded 48 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss. That experience raises the developmental standard: he has handled substantial workloads in two programs, and his next step is turning that background into consistently controlled interior play.
02Strength that must arrive on time
Mike Renner sees a more forceful block shedder at Oregon, and Andrew Harbaugh credits strength, hand swipes and useful tackling technique. Those observations explain the early-down appeal. An interior defender must first control enough of the block to remain relevant, then separate in time to affect the runner. Alexander’s strength gives him a way to do that without winning solely through penetration. For the NFL projection, the important distinction is whether the strike and separation remain coordinated when the blocker reaches him from a less favorable angle.
03The combination-block disagreement
Harbaugh is positive about Alexander’s ability to withstand double teams. Benjamin Hodge is more concerned about a high pad level, an inconsistent base and unreliable hand placement against those same stresses. The disagreement should not disappear into a generic description of power. A large defender can be difficult to move when his leverage is right and much easier to displace when it is not. His assignment should reflect the consistency of that leverage, rather than assuming his body type automatically makes him a dependable two-gap anchor.
04Using the movement advantage
Hodge describes impressive lateral and vertical movement and the ability to operate across several defensive-line positions. Daft on Draft is especially interested in Alexander as a penetrating three-technique. The practical opportunity is to create favorable first contact: attack a gap, change the blocker’s aiming point and use movement to prevent an easy square engagement. Versatility is valuable when it produces useful assignments. It becomes less meaningful if it simply means lining up in many places without executing any of them consistently.
05Power is the starting point of a rush
The pass-rush case remains more prospective. Hodge identifies bull-rush flashes but an undeveloped plan, while Harbaugh finds that the power does not consistently become productive pressure. Alexander needs a response when the initial push stalls. That could mean a better-timed separation or a counter matched to the blocker’s commitment, but those are development priorities rather than established moves in this report. The one-sack Oregon season does not erase the physical promise; it does keep the projection from treating promise as a finished rushing skill.
Strengths
Functional strength and improved block shedding provide a credible run-defense foundation.
Interior movement offers options for penetration and varied deployment beyond a static nose role.
Concerns
Pad level, base and hand placement produce materially different evaluations of his ability to handle combinations.
Rush-plan development has not yet matched the athletic tools or starting experience.
NFL role and scheme fit
Alexander fits an interior rotation that can mix attacking assignments with selected early-down responsibilities. A staff should build the workload around the blocks he handles consistently and expand it as his leverage holds up. The potential to move him is useful, but it should serve a clear purpose: creating disruption while keeping the defense structurally sound behind him.
Bottom line
Alexander has enough experience and useful tools to warrant a substantive NFL evaluation. The strongest case is a defender who converts improved contact work into reliable interior snaps, then adds a more coherent rush. Consistency would change his value more than another isolated display of impressive movement.
