October 17, 2026. Schedule checked October 15, 2026; times can change.
Anthonie Knapp has started six games at left guard for a Notre Dame line that has allowed two sacks. At BYU on October 17, watch his feet after the first punch: the next rush move tests whether he can keep the block under control. The day begins with Julian Sayin at Indiana after four touchdown passes against Maryland, and Ryan Wingo working to make his route breaks match his speed. Zabien Brown’s coverage eyes and Mark Fletcher Jr.’s protection complete five questions across five games.
QB Ohio State
Julian Sayin
Ohio State at Indiana · · FOX
Can he find the outlet before an inside rusher closes the pocket?
Julian Sayin threw four touchdowns in Ohio State’s 45–16 win over Maryland, completing 13 of 21 passes for 242 yards. Maryland also returned an interception 52 yards for a score. At Indiana, the throws to watch begin when a rusher crosses the line through the middle and Sayin loses the space to step up. His report identifies that pressure as a harder problem than a rush he can climb past.
Sayin’s compact release and touch let him deliver before underneath coverage closes. An inside rusher can take away the base that makes those throws repeatable, and he does not have the sudden acceleration to keep creating fresh platforms. The answer may be a short throw already built into the protection. Follow when Sayin sees it, how quickly he commits and whether the ball reaches the receiver with space to turn. A clean outlet before contact is more useful here than a late escape.
Watch for
- Does he identify the short answer while the inside rusher is still a step away?
- Can he deliver in front of the outlet receiver without an extra reset?
WR Texas
Ryan Wingo
Florida at Texas · · ABC
Can he carry his vertical speed into a sharp, on-time break?
Ryan Wingo’s 34-yard touchdown put Texas ahead 14–7 in the second quarter against Oklahoma, before the Sooners came back to win 27–24. Florida gets a receiver whose acceleration can threaten deep coverage and turn a short completion into a physical run. The next gain in Wingo’s game comes between those two uses: selling the vertical route, then getting out of a break soon enough to give Arch Manning a clear target.
His report credits the way he attacks a defender’s leverage once the stem develops, but flags uneven releases and deceleration. On intermediate cuts, watch whether his final steps stay under him or become a long braking sequence. The corner should have to honor the deep route until Wingo changes direction. If he slows too early, the defender can close before the ball arrives, taking away the space that makes his running after the catch valuable.
Watch for
- Does his stem keep the corner moving backward until the cut?
- How many steps does he need to slow, plant and show Manning a target?
CB Alabama
Zabien Brown
Alabama at Tennessee · · ABC
Can he read the quarterback without losing the route behind him?
Alabama lost 20–17 to Georgia and now heads to Tennessee, where Zabien Brown’s patience and appetite for the ball have to work together. His report gives him the feet for the assignment: a controlled backpedal, a fluid turn and enough closing burst to challenge a throw from off coverage. The trouble comes when his eyes leave the receiver before he has accounted for where the route is going.
A glance into the backfield can help Brown anticipate a pass, but it can also let a receiver cross behind his attention. On snaps that give him vision on the quarterback, follow the route first. Watch when Brown checks the passer and whether he still has the receiver in position to defend. If the route gains leverage, his recovery needs to come from his feet; the late grab turns a difficult rep into a potential penalty.
Watch for
- When he looks at the quarterback, does the receiver stay within his coverage responsibility?
- After a receiver gains leverage, does he recover with his feet or reach and grab?
RB Miami
Mark Fletcher Jr.
Florida State at Miami · · ESPN
Can he identify the blitzer and sustain the block through the throw?
Mark Fletcher Jr. returned from an injury absence with two touchdowns in Miami’s 41–13 win at Clemson, scoring from two yards and one. Miami then had an open week before Florida State. The rushing finish is familiar; Saturday’s watch starts on the snaps when Fletcher stays beside the quarterback to block. His protection gives a downhill back another way to remain useful when the offense needs to throw.
Size and willingness help him meet pressure, and his report credits effective protection finishes. The sequence still has two jobs: find the threat in time, then keep it occupied after the first collision. Follow the blitzer from the snap and watch Fletcher’s position at contact. Does he stay between the rusher and the quarterback as the rusher works to an edge? That second part determines how long the route has to develop.
Fletcher is not listed on Wednesday’s initial ACC availability report, checked Thursday morning. His return at Clemson puts recent work behind the projection; the Friday and game-day reports still need checking.
Watch for
- Does he reach the pressure before it gets a direct path to the quarterback?
- After the first collision, does the block last until the ball leaves?
OL Notre Dame
Anthonie Knapp
Notre Dame at BYU · · ABC
Can he keep his feet moving when the defender changes direction?
Anthonie Knapp has started all six Notre Dame games at left guard, and the Irish line has allowed two sacks as a unit. Against Stanford, Notre Dame rushed for 361 yards. The move inside is now a weekly assignment after his two seasons of tackle starts. At BYU, the most revealing part of his protection comes just after his hands reach the defender.
Knapp can generate movement when his punch and leg drive work together. His report’s concern is that his feet sometimes stop once he reaches the set point and engages. A defender who changes direction then gets a chance to leave the block while Knapp is still rebuilding his base. Watch the feet beneath the contact: small adjustments should let him follow the rusher without opening an inside path to CJ Carr.
He has shown an ability to reset his anchor, so the recovery is part of the evaluation too. Compare blocks where the first punch lands cleanly with those where the defender knocks his hands away. Follow whether his next step puts him back in front of the rush and lets the second strike settle the block. That is the sequence to carry from Provo into Monday’s review.
Watch for
- Do his feet remain active after the first punch lands?
- When the defender clears his hands, does the next step close the inside lane?
After the games

Postgame follow-up planned for October 19, 2026.
We’ll return to these questions, separate what the new evidence supports from what remains open, and explain any change to our assessment. The preview above stays on the record.
- Julian SayinCompare inside-pressure snaps with clean-pocket throws to the same short concepts; mark recognition, release and placement.
- Ryan WingoPair intermediate breaking routes with vertical stems from similar alignments; compare the approach, braking steps and separation at release.
- Zabien BrownPull throws and untargeted routes from off coverage; compare the timing of Brown’s quarterback glance with the receiver’s change of direction.
- Mark Fletcher Jr.Confirm participation, then chart pass-protection assignments from identification through release, including blocks that lose the rusher after initial contact.
- Anthonie KnappCompare first-contact wins and recoveries at left guard; track the feet, second strike and inside lane through the end of each block.
