Ahmad Moten Sr., Miami’s defensive tackle, is expected back at Clemson after missing the Central Michigan game. He made 14 starts last season; Saturday’s test is holding his run gap when a guard stops his first step. In the noon game on ABC, Alabama receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams brings 333 receiving yards to Mississippi State, where cornerback Kelley Jones had four pass breakups last week. Iowa tackle Trevor Lauck’s protection exchanges and South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers’s short throws complete the October 3 watchlist.

WR Alabama

Ryan Coleman-Williams

Alabama at Mississippi State · · ABC

Can he beat the jam and still arrive on time?

Ryan Coleman-Williams leads Alabama with 333 receiving yards entering the trip to Mississippi State. His acceleration threatens a corner who gives him room, but our report identifies hard press and uneven intermediate routes as concerns. Watch the snaps where he starts outside and has to beat the jam himself.

The timing matters after he clears the defender’s hands. Does he reach the break while the quarterback can still throw, or does early contact leave him chasing the play? On short routes, follow the catch too. The report flags routine drops and trouble securing the ball through contact. Beating press, making the break and holding the pass are three separate parts of the rep.

Watch for

  • After the jam, does he reach the break on time?
  • Does he hold the short pass through contact?

CB Mississippi State

Kelley Jones

Alabama at Mississippi State · · ABC

Can he change direction without giving the receiver a throwing window?

Kelley Jones had eight tackles and four pass breakups against Missouri, both career highs in Mississippi State’s updated biography. Against Alabama, watch the route before the contest at the ball. Our report credits his reach and downfield recovery but identifies sharp cuts as a problem: he can lose ground while lowering his hips to turn.

Track the gap at the receiver’s break and again when the pass leaves the quarterback’s hand. Jones’s speed can bring him back into a play after a throwing window has opened. Double moves test him twice. After reacting to the first cut, he has to turn again and find the ball. His assignments will determine which Alabama receivers provide those tests.

Watch for

  • How much ground does he lose at a sharp break?
  • After a double move, can he turn and find the pass?

OT Iowa

Trevor Lauck

Ohio State at Iowa · · CBS

Can he pass off one threat and take the next?

Trevor Lauck has started Iowa’s first four games at left tackle. Against Ohio State, his question is the protection exchange when rushers cross paths. Our report credits his hand placement and recognition of stunts, but also records assignment lapses that leave a defender unblocked. Watch the gap between Lauck and the lineman beside him.

Lauck needs to stay square enough to pass off the first rusher and take the second. Holding the original block does not protect the quarterback if another defender comes through beside it. Identify the exchange and the free rusher before assigning fault; the broadcast will not always reveal the protection call.

Iowa’s notes specify a 3:39 p.m. Eastern kickoff. CBS’s listing begins at 3:30.

Watch for

  • Can he release the first rusher and take the one crossing toward him?
  • Does the exchange close the inside path to the quarterback?

QB South Carolina

LaNorris Sellers

Kentucky at South Carolina · · SEC Network

Can he throw before the receiver finishes the break?

LaNorris Sellers threw for 185 yards, one touchdown and one interception in South Carolina’s 49–18 loss at Alabama. He added 72 rushing yards and remains first on the Week 5 depth chart. Kentucky’s visit brings a test of his short passing: our report identifies late decisions and inconsistent footwork behind missed completions from the pocket.

Watch his feet as the receiver approaches the break. Sellers needs to set and release before the receiver is fully open. Waiting gives a defender time to close, and a late throw can require the receiver to stop or reach back. Compare those pocket throws with his throws on the move, a strength in the report.

SEC Network’s listing starts at 4:15 p.m. Eastern. South Carolina’s game-day guide puts kickoff at 4:20.

Watch for

  • Does he release the ball before the receiver comes out of the break?
  • Are his feet set when he finds the short throw?

DT Miami

Ahmad Moten Sr.

Miami at Clemson · · ABC

What happens when his first step does not win?

Ahmad Moten Sr. started 14 games for Miami last season. He missed Central Michigan last week, but Mario Cristobal expects him back at Clemson, according to The Clemson Insider’s report of Monday’s radio interview. Moten was not listed on Thursday’s ACC availability report. If he plays, start with the run snaps where the guard meets him at the line.

His first step can get him past a guard, but our report identifies trouble staying low and holding his gap when the block stops that burst. Follow the runner’s lane when a second blocker joins. Moten needs to keep that space closed through contact; getting past a shoulder does not help if it leaves the runner a path inside.

Watch for

  • When the guard stops his first step, does he stay in his run gap?
  • Can he stay low and hold his ground against two blockers?
