QB Ohio State

Julian Sayin

Ohio State 19, Indiana 15 · 15-of-29, 235 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT; sacked 3 times

The question we took inCan he find the outlet before an inside rusher closes the pocket?

Sayin threw both Ohio State touchdowns before an injury ended his afternoon.

Julian Sayin finished with 235 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions before leaving Ohio State’s 19–15 win in the fourth quarter. Mario Landino’s 18-yard sack ended his last snap, and Luke Fahey took the next one. On October 20, Ryan Day said Sayin was out indefinitely and gave no return date.

The pressure review also has two earlier sacks to examine. Tobi Osunsanmi dropped Sayin for six yards early in the second quarter; the next pass was deflected and intercepted. Later in the quarter, Sayin followed Osunsanmi’s 10-yard sack with a 30-yard completion to Chris Henry Jr. That drive ended with a two-yard touchdown pass to Bo Jackson five seconds before halftime.

Our preview’s concern was the outlet decision when penetration takes away Sayin’s platform. His compact release helps him deliver quickly, but he has limited burst to escape and create another throwing angle. Start with the second-quarter sacks and compare the short completion to Isaiah West that opened the fourth-quarter drive at 10:30. Establish when the outlet becomes available, where the pressure enters and whether Sayin still has room to release. The injury itself supplies no answer about that decision.

WR Texas

Ryan Wingo

Florida 27, Texas 24 · 5 catches, 49 yards on 8 targets; 59 yards after catch

The question we took inCan he carry his vertical speed into a sharp, on-time break?

Wingo gained most of his receiving yards after catches behind the line.

Ryan Wingo’s five catches produced 49 yards in Texas’s 27–24 loss, with 59 yards coming after the catch. Four passes reached him behind the line of scrimmage. His first three receptions gained 10, three and 11 yards; the first fourth-quarter catch added 15. Texas repeatedly gave him the ball with ground to recover before the gain could begin.

That work puts his acceleration and strength after the catch in view, while the preview’s question concerned the break before it. Wingo can threaten vertically, but his deceleration and timing through cuts have been less consistent. Pull the fourth-quarter catch that began six yards downfield, then the incomplete deep-left target on third-and-six later in that possession. Compare his vertical stem, the steps used to slow down and the space at the break. Follow the throw’s timing separately from the receiver’s cut.

CB Alabama

Zabien Brown

Tennessee 26, Alabama 10 · 2 solo tackles; 0 pass breakups, 0 interceptions

The question we took inCan he read the quarterback without losing the route behind him?

Brown made both tackles on the same Tennessee possession before a punt.

Zabien Brown made two solo tackles in Alabama’s 26–10 loss, both early in the second quarter. On second-and-12, he stopped Braylon Staley after a three-yard reception. On third-and-nine, Brown ended the next completion after seven yards, two short of the first down. Tennessee punted after a delay penalty.

Both catches began behind the line, giving the coverage review two short throws from the same possession. The first task is to locate Brown’s receiver responsibility before following his approach to the ball. His patient movement and fluid hips let him stay connected, but a glance at the quarterback can cost him a route moving behind his attention.

Run those snaps from the receiver’s release, including any route that draws Brown away from the eventual target. Mark his first look into the backfield against the receiver’s change of direction. Then compare the routes where he has to recover with his feet. The two stops supplied the finish; the eye timing has to be followed from the snap.

RB Miami

Mark Fletcher Jr.

Miami 43, Florida State 35 (2OT) · 16 carries, 66 yards, 1 TD; 0 catches

The question we took inCan he identify the blitzer and sustain the block through the throw?

Fletcher converted third-and-five, then scored Miami’s opening touchdown on the next snap.

Mark Fletcher Jr. ran for 66 yards on 16 carries in Miami’s 43–35 double-overtime win. On the opening scoring drive, he converted third-and-five with a nine-yard run, then scored from seven yards on the next snap.

Late in the first quarter, Fletcher carried twice from Miami’s two to reach the nine. On third-and-three, Darian Mensah threw incomplete to him while Rylan Kennedy applied pressure. Fletcher’s only counted target ended that possession, and Miami punted. The protection review should begin before his release into the route.

Fletcher’s size and willingness give him a way to stay involved when Miami throws; the harder part is finding the pressure and sustaining contact. On that third down, establish whether he has a pickup, a check before releasing or an immediate route. Then isolate the snaps where he stays in protection. Track the rusher through Fletcher’s first contact and any attempt to cross his face, comparing the end of the block with Mensah’s release.

OL Notre Dame

Anthonie Knapp

BYU 28, Notre Dame 24 · Started on offensive line; Notre Dame allowed 0 sacks

The question we took inCan he keep his feet moving when the defender changes direction?

Knapp started as Notre Dame kept its sack total at zero in Provo.

Anthonie Knapp started in Notre Dame’s 28–24 loss at BYU, and the Irish allowed no sacks. Their last possession still required CJ Carr to evade a free rusher before finding Jaden Greathouse on third-and-four. Notre Dame reached the seven, where the final pass fell incomplete. That third-down escape belongs beside the completed protections when examining the line’s evening.

Knapp’s strongest blocks combine his strike with continuing leg drive. His concern is what happens when his feet stop after engagement and a defender changes direction. Start with his assignment on that late third down, without assigning the free rusher to him, then compare his other pass sets on the drive. Watch the step immediately after his hands land: does it keep him in front of the defender, or leave him reaching? On recoveries, follow the second strike and whether his base closes the inside path to Carr.
